Resolved Question: Advice for a Solo Female Traveling One Month in Japan?

21 July 2010, 9:04 am

Hi All, I'm planning a one month trip to Japan this Nov-Dec. I'll be going solo. I have some questions - if you can answer a few of them then thats GREAT or if you can answer all of them then thats AWESOME. * How generally safe is it for a solo female traveling in Japan? The only other Asian countries I've traveled to is Singapore and Philippines. I find Singapore to be friendly - I didn't feel completely unsafe. I found Philippines to be a bit daunting (I'm half Filo) - yet I received many stares and suggestions - it came to the point where I wasn't allowed to be walking around by myself without a companion. * Which treatment would I likely receive in Japan? These are the places I'm PLANNING to visit - your thoughts? * Staying in Osaka - with day trips to Nara and Himeji. * Staying in Kyoto - with day trips to Amanohashidate. * Staying in Hiroshima - with day trips to Miyajima and Kurashiki. * Staying in Tokyo - with day trips to Kamakura, Yokohama and Mount Fuji. Any other places you could recommend? OR places you think I should scrap from my list? * Will $100 per day be enough? For eating, site-seeing and transportation. * From my itinerary should I buy a JR pass? * The month that I will be staying there - will it be Autumn or Winter? It'll be middle of November to middle of December. Will I encounter snow? * Are there any great Onsens in the areas I'm traveling in? * Anyone know any legit hostel websites for Japan? I appreciate all suitable answers. Thanks. :)... Read More »
