Open Question: How can I travel to Okinawa cheap during December?

I am going to Tokyo and Osaka during December 20th until January 4th, and I really want to go to Okinawa. I noticed the flights are all around 400 dollars one way. I really can't afford that. I'm not sure about taking a ferry because it's time consuming. I looked into all of the Japan Airpass offers, but it's impossible to use one during my time of travel. Is there any way?
